【Record of Activity】
Since November 2010, we have held four consecutive seminars to discuss our publication as the final outcome of G-COE program. In this final seminar, we discussed the outline of Volume 5, The Sustainable Humanosphere Index.
Firstly, Asst. Prof. Takahiro Sato of G-COE explained of the outline and structure of Volume 5. Secondly, Prof. Yoichi Mine of Doshisha University gave a critical summary of the development of existing indices and emphasized the significance of the Humanosphere Index. Thirdly, Dr. Taizo Wada, a research fellow at G-COE, examined the humano-sphere index and its limitations. Lastly, Asst. Prof. Takahiro Sato attempted to consider the geosphere and biosphere indices as well as its limitations.
In discussion, a large number of important questions were raised. Especially, contributors and participants discussed how to evaluate “populations” as a quantitative index of the humano-sphere. We also exchanged our idea and opinion on “national-level” measurement criteria.
