Southern Africa Field Stations (FS) were set up in Zambia (Zambia FS) and Namibia (Namibia SF) with the aim to support the fieldwork of graduate students and researchers studying the countries of southern Africa and to promote wide exchanges between researchers. The Namibia FS is located in a residential district of Windhoek, the capital of the country, and serves as a base of activities for faculty and graduate students carrying out fieldwork in Namibia and neighboring countries. The FS is equipped with computer and Internet devices, shelves, and chairs, allowing researchers and graduate students to make preparations for going into the field and to efficiently organize and analyze the materials they collect. The FS is also used as a place for exchanges of information, including workshops with local researchers and others , and can be used as lodging. Further, the Namibia FS also hosts regular “Southern Africa Regional Workshops” along with the Zambia FS, to carry out network research on problems common to the region, as well as symposiums for exchanges with researchers and others in neighboring countries.
